Obituary of John BATES

BATES, John Hyde - July 14th 1940 - January 31st 2016 - John passed away peacefully, surrounded by his children at Kingston General Hospital on January 31st, 2016. John was a beloved brother, father, grandfather, uncle, teacher, and friend. He will be missed by his children Chris (Michelle, their children Brittany and Jordan), David (Lucinda, and David's daughters Holly and Joycelyn), Kyle, Timothy (Alanna), Lindsey (Nick, their daughter Elizabeth) and Emily; his siblings Carol, Michael, Jackie, Peter, Susan, and Chuck; and his many nieces and nephews. John is predeceased by his parents Jack and Marguerite, and his brother Paul. A life-long educator, John touched the lives of countless students and colleagues, and nurtured innovative programming across the school system. He was an avid bird-watcher, gardener, community volunteer, and patron of the arts. Memorial Reception will be held at JAMES REID RECEPTION CENTRE, (please use rear doors), 1900 John Counter Boulevard on Saturday, February 6, 2016 from 6:00pm to 9:00pm with words of remembrance at 7:00pm.
