Obituary of Ethel Gertrude Butterill

BUTTERILL, Ethel Gertrude (nee Miller), Graduate of Kingston General Hospital School of Nursing, Class of '49. Suddenly on Friday, January 20, 2017 in her 90th year. Predeceased by parents Mervyn and Gertrude, her brother Robert (his wife Evelyn) and her beloved husband James. Also predeceased by her special friend Neil Howie. She is survived by her sons Robert (Sandie) of Cameron, Ontario and Bruce (Pilar) of Bogota, Colombia. Adoring grandmother to Megan, Stephanie (Luc) and Katie (Christiaan), great grandmother to Cahlie and Dana, with a loving extended family, including 3 great grandchildren. Ethel was an extraordinary mother, aunt, grandmother and great grandmother. Her greatest attribute may have been the way she made everyone feel so comfortable whether you had known her for years or just minutes. She was a proud graduate of KGH, a respected hospital administrator, an accomplished folk art painter and a bridge player to be reckoned with. A member of Cataraqui Golf and Country Club for nearly 50 years where she won numerous curling championships. A Celebration of Life service will be held in the Chapel of the JAMES REID FUNERAL HOME, 1900 John Counter Boulevard, Kingston on Saturday, January 28 at 11:00 am. Family will receive friends prior to the service from 10:00 a.m. to 10:50 a.m., and during a reception that will follow the service in the Reception Centre. The family will gather privately at Glenhaven Memorial Gardens for the inurnment ceremony. If desired, donations to the KGH Alumni Endowment Fund would be appreciated.
