Obituary of Henry Clifford GIROUX

GIROUX, Henry Clifford Henry passed away at Trillium Ridge Nursing Home on Sunday, September 4, 2016, aged 93 years. Beloved husband of the late Goldie (Wegner) Giroux (1954-2001), and by a previous marriage to the late Lillian (Thompson) Giroux. Cherished father of Brian (Janet) and James. Loving and proud grandpa of Kaitlyn (Matthew) Clarke, Courtney, Jordan (Katie Wallis) and Joshua. Dear brother of Norma Havens (Bob), Velma McNicol, Robert (Pauline) and Jean Hueston. Predeceased by parents Ephraim and Laura, as well as his brothers Emile and Gerald and sisters Florence Campbell, Pearl Patterson and Mildred Currie and Mable, in infancy. Born on September 29, 1922 in Otter Lake, Quebec, he later moved to Ottawa with his family, where he spent much of his childhood. He served in the Canadian Army (1942-1946) during World War II in England as a Tank Mechanic. After the war, he relocated to Kingston and married Lillian (died from complications of diabetes). Henry then met, fell in love with his "Goldie Locks" and married in 1954. Goldie and Henry were devoted Christians and long-time members of The Kingston Gospel Temple (KGT). Henry expressed great gratitude to God for his many privileges. He volunteered his time as the KGT bus driver, Sunday School Teacher, member of the Choir, Elder, ``Token male`` of the Women's Group and countless other roles and duties. Henry worked 35 years for Correctional Services of Canada. He started his career at Kingston Penitentiary as a guard and transferred to Collins Bay where he later retired as a paint instructor. For over two decades, Henry was one of the goal judges for the Kingston Frontenacs at the Memorial Centre. One of his greatest joys in his life was the arrival of his grandchildren and the time he spent with them. Henry loved his family, painting, gospel singing, writing, watching boxing matches, eating blueberry pie, brown sugar fudge, butter and assorted licorice, he enjoyed playing chess, board and card games, his favorite cartoon was Snoopy and he found comfort and peace with Bible Study. A Memorial Service in Celebration of Henry`s life will be held in the Chapel of the JAMES REID FUNERAL HOME, 1900 John Counter Boulevard, on Wednesday, September 7, at 4:00 pm., with Pastor Phil Carroll officiating. Family and friends will be received prior to the service, from 3:00 pm until 3:50 pm, and at the conclusion of the service during a Reception in the James Reid Reception Centre. Inurnment will take place at Glenhaven Memorial Gardens where he will be rejoined with his beloved Goldie, during a private family service. As expressions of sympathy, memorial donations for those wishing, may be made to the charity of your choice and would be appreciated by his family.
