Mike and I were at Police College together in 1989.
His far-too-early death hit me particularly hard. Early on, it was clear Mike was a talented Policeman and investigator.
He was the proud son of a legendary Mounted Policeman, Wayne, and spoke glowingly of his then girlfriend Sue, who he happily spent his life with.
Mike was a force to be reckoned with if you were a bandit. He did the job in a way few could do, and he did it very well. He always supported his fellow law enforcement officers in times of need. Mike was like a rock, steady, un-moving, powerful, and always reliable. He loved his family and wasn't shy about telling you so. Mike laughed heartily at a good joke, and was the kind of guy who could make you laugh, even in the most difficult situations. He was the finest person and Policeman that I was ever privileged to know. And I will miss him, everyday, for the rest of my life.
Rest in peace Mike. May your loved ones live in peace and harmony forever.

So sorry to hear about Mike's passing. He was a truly dedicated professional with very strong family values. I never worked with Mike directly but I did enjoy chatting with him when we crossed paths at 17 Division. His smile, infectious laugh and humourous approach always left me with a smile on my face. We offer our condolences to Mike's entire family.

Mike's passing will not go unnoticed by the people he worked with. Life isn't always fair.
Mike was blessed with a wonderful sense of humor, lots of common sense, intelligence and a kind soul. I can recall a number of times when Mike had the office laughing with one of his stories. He was a joy to be around and will live on in our memories.

I was shocked and saddened to hear about Mike's sudden passing last week. I had the good fortune and privilege to prosecute a number of Mike's robbery and homicide cases over the years. He was an exceptional investigator with great common sense who i could always rely upon to keep me on the right path.
More importantly, Mike was a great guy. His humour, wit and common sense advice was always appreciated, especially when delivered with that grin of his and little twinkle in his eye.
We had many chats about our families and growing daughters over the years as well as his many misadventures with axes, knives and other sharp objects and more recently his trials and tribulations while building their long planned dream home.
My deepest condolences to Sue, Sam and his family who i know he adored and loved.
I will miss him greatly.

My sincere condolences to Mike’s entire family, I was saddened to hear of his passing. When I worked with Mike I always looked forward to hearing stories of his family , which was his greatest pride and joy, traveling to Algonquin park with his family to watch moose along the road , or the hunting trips to Tichborne which always had a humorous ending.
Mike was one of the best people I had the pleasure of working with and he will be missed by many, Rest In Peace my friend.

I worked as one of Mike’s supervisors first on 17 D platoon and later in the Major Crime Unit. He was a solid police officer and an even better person, someone both I and others could count on always. I was shocked and saddened by his sudden passing and would like to offer condolences to his family.

I will always have great memories of working with Mike in Homicide. A great investigator, and devoted family man. He always kept the mood light in an otherwise mentally difficult area of policing. From our team building at Jay’s games, to his tireless work at getting the bad guy behind bars, I always enjoyed our time working together. Sue and Sam our thoughts are with you.

My deepest condolences to Sue, Sam and the rest of Mike's family. I worked with Mike on many investigations. He was one of my absolute favourite detectives to work with. A brilliant officer but an even better human being with a sense of humour no one came close to. He was sure to harass me every single chance he had. Sam, your dad and I had many conversations about you, what you were up to and your adventures with horses (seeing as I too am a horse person). Mike was a very private person, but when he spoke of you Sam you could see his eyes light up, and hear in his voice how much he loved you and was so proud to be your dad.

My husband and I had the privilege of working closely with Mike. I was his admin in the Robbery unit where he constantly had me in stitches laughing. He was so sarcastic and full of the funniest stories. I never met a greater guy to work with.
My husband was partners in homicide with Mike on several cases and had a huge respect for him. He was always solid and honest and the most straightforward person that you’d ever meet.
He adored his family and always talked about his wife and Sam. Always shared stories about his dad and always had a smile on his face. He will be sincerely missed by all. A legend to all who knew him well. He won’t be forgotten.
