Obituary of Harry Peter STEPHENS
STEPHENS, Harry Peter, died peacefully in his 75th year in Kingston General Hospital on Friday, December 11, 2015, following a brief admission to relieve his suffering from acute heart failure. Predeceased by his parents, Hylton and Mary Stephens and by his wife, the love of his life, Elizabeth (nee Sinclair), Harry struggled for many years with visual impairment, diabetes, and cardiovascular problems, supported ably by his dedicated family physician, Ian Sempowski, and many consulting specialists. A life-long resident of Kingston (and for many years the one-time village of Collins Bay) he was a founding partner in the firm Holloway-Stephens Insurance Adjusters and an active participant (including a term as president) in the Ontario Association of Insurance Adjusters. Harry is survived by his three sons, Matthew Hylton of Charlottesville, Virginia, Hal Gordon and Jennifer Belanger and Harry's grandchildren, Shaw and Ellice, and Ian Duncan, all of Kingston. Harry is survived by his sisters, Sheila Smith of Mississauga and Shirley Maguire of Ottawa. The family will receive visitors at the JAMES REID FUNERAL HOME, 1900 John Counter Boulevard on Monday, December 14, between the hours of 2:00 pm to 4:00 pm and 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm. Funeral service in the Chapel on Tuesday, December 15, at 11:00 am, with Reverend Georgia Copland officiating. Inurnment at Cataraqui Cemetery. As expressions of sympathy and in lieu of flowers, donations to the Heart and Stroke Foundation or the Diabetes Society would be appreciated.
