Obituary of Jack Thomas Friendship

Friendship, Jack Thomas

July 15, 1924 - February 9, 2018

Peacefully at Kingston Health Sciences Centre in his 94th year. Born in Kingston to Roy and Ethel Friendship (nee Johnston). Predeceased by his wife Dorothy in 1988, and siblings Elsie Grace and Ron Friendship. Survived by his daughters Lois Ross (Graeme) and Loreen Johnston (Philip). He will be fondly remembered by his seven grandchildren, Heather Ross McManus (Sean), Laura Gorman (Alex), Colin Ross, Cameron Johnston (Randi), Anna McNamara (Sean), Carrie Waye (Ben) and Suzanne Winghart (Gary). Affectionately known as Grandpa Jack to his eighteen great grandchildren, Quinlan, Gavin and Darren McManus, Jack, Trevor and Connor Gorman, William and James Ross, Sonora-Jean Johnston, Grace, Luke, Caleb and Ella McNamara, Leah, Callie and Isaac Waye and Hannah and Timothy Winghart. Jack worked in construction for over fifty years, managing and owning Friendship Construction Company Limited. He was a life member of the Kingston Construction Association and gold card member of Brick and Allied Craft Union 10. Jack actively participated in the life of First Baptist Church and was the fourth generation of Friendships to be part of the congregation. He enjoyed his cottage on Loughborough Lake where friends and family gathered over the years. He was often seen sitting on a bench enjoying the beauty of Churchill Park near the home he built in 1945. Support from VON Assisted Living Services enabled him to remain in his own home until shortly before his death.

Special thanks to Dr. Cristoveanu, Melissa Mustard of VON, Providence Care Seniors’ Rehab Program, and the caring staff on Kidd 9.

Visitation will be held on Monday, February 19, 2018 (Family Day) from 10am until 10:50am. There will be a service in the chapel at 11am. Friends are welcome to join the Friendship Family for a time of refreshments and memories in the reception centre directly after the service.

As an expression of sympathy and in memory of Jack, donations may be made to First Baptist Church, VON Assisted Living Services or the Charity of your choice.
