Obituary of Ruth Ilene MURPHY

Murphy, Ruth Ilene (nee Davidson) 1918 - 2016 Entered peacefully into the presence of her Lord, surrounded by her loving children, at Fairmount Home on Wednesday, February 3, 2016. Ruth Murphy in her 98th year, beloved wife of the late Patrick. Loving mother of Peter Murphy and his wife Pam Love, Janice Sacks and her husband David, Kathleen Llewellyn-Thomas and her husband Martin Kenneally and Sharon Murphy and her husband Richard Cumyn. Lovingly known as Grammie to her seven grandchildren Shannon and Emily; Christine (Chris); Roland and Brett; Vivien (Andrew) and Elizabeth, and great grandmother of Sophie and Hugh. Survived by her sister Helen King, predeceased by brothers Ottis, Roy, Ernie and Eric and sister, Susie. She will be fondly remembered by many nieces and nephews. Her life was long and complete; her faith was strong, so there is a sense of completeness and joy in believing she has been released to a greater reunion. However, she was our Mom, Grammie, great-grandmother, aunt, sister and friend. Our loss is great. She inspired us with her love, joy, strength, loyalty to family and friends; and with her self-reliance and selflessness. She had a high sense of style in her personal appearance and her home. She showed her love by creating beautiful things. She was an accomplished decorator, cook, and hostess. We ve all enjoyed the fruits of her sewing, knitting, and stitching. The family expresses their gratitude to the loving care of the professionals in the Intensive Care Unit at Kingston General Hospital (including Dr. Barry Chan and nurses Jazmine, Emily and Mark) and at Fairmount Home (including nurse practitioner Stacey, and nurses Chelsea, and Dawn). A memorial service will be held in the chapel of James Reid Funeral Home, 1900 John Counter Blvd. on Tuesday, February 9, 2016 at 1:30 p.m. Family and friends will be received from 12:30 to 1:15 p.m. As expressions of sympathy, donations to First Baptist Church, Kingston or Fairmount Home would be appreciated by the family.
