Obituary of Phyllis E. COWAN
COWAN, Phyllis E. -
Passed away peacefully in the early morning hours of January 25, 2016 at the age of 77.Phyllis (nee Hamilton),beloved wife of the late David Delos Cowan. Cherished mother to Julie of Kingston, and Jeff (and his wife Cindi) of Mississauga. Loving grandmother to Cole, Brock, Zak and Brielle, as well as numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren in the Cowan family. Phyllis is survived by siblings Ruth-Ann (Garry Patterson), Delores (Harold Pennington) and Doug Hamilton, and fondly remembered by many nieces and nephews, as well as David's children, John, Rick, Ralph, the late Bernie, and their families. Phyllis lived an active and very involved life. As a young girl she enjoyed figure skating and participated in numerous shows , often "taking home the hardware" and eventually began teaching the sport to younger skaters. In her years as a young adult and mother, Phyllis enjoyed snowmobiling and would often put the competitors to shame with her snow machine prowess, easily winning trophies in the Ladies Powder Puff League. She was an accomplished musician with a natural talent, playing the trumpet and piano with ease. She would often sit at the piano with her grandchildren trying to impart some of her talent onto them. Her love of music led her to a life as an entertainer in her Florida community where she could always be found directing various choirs, barbershop quartets, humorous skits and musical theatre. Always the life-of-the-party, she loved her dancing too and would dance with her husband, Dave, and any other willing partners till she dropped! She never missed an opportunity to have fun and enjoy life. As retirement loomed for Phyllis and Dave, she wasn't content with the thought of being idle. Having a love of travel, she began a new life as a tour bus director which took her all across North America, bringing her an array of new friends and adventures. She always cherished her friendships and was often known to be off on a driving adventure with a close friend, which ALWAYS started at Tim Horton's! Phyllis will be sadly missed but warmly remembered by all those who knew her. Thanks and appreciation go out to the staff of Sienna/Trillium Senior Living for their tireless care and devotion. In accordance with Phyllis' wishes cremation has taken place. The family will receive friends at the JAMES REID FUNERAL HOME, 1900 John Counter Boulevard, on Monday, February 1, between the hours of 2:00 pm and 4:00 pm. A private graveside service will be held at Cataraqui Cemetery. As an expression of sympathy, donations may be made to Trillium Long Term Health Care, in Mrs. Cowan's memory.
