Obituary of John WOOD

WOOD, John Edward "Ed" - Passed away peacefully at St. Mary's of the Lake Hospital on Wednesday, January 13, 2016 at the age of 91. Ed beloved husband of the late Mildred Elizabeth Yull-Wood (Bickle) and the late Audrey Elena Knapp Adams. Ed was predeceased by his parents Marcus Edward Wood and Hattie Belle Lancaster (Latimer), his sisters Frances Cupido (Ernie) and Betty Friend (Bill) and by his brother John Arthur Lancaster (Thelma). He is survived by his stepson Allan Adams (Caroline), brother-in-law Keith Knapp (Pat), sister-in-law Pat Knapp and nieces and nephews Mary Skeggs (Jim), Julie Vandenakker (John), Larry O'Grady (Ninon), Jim Lancaster, Robert Lancaster (Shirley), John Lancaster (Carol), and Nancy Nadeau (Francois) and by his special cousin Helen Horne (Rev. Sidney). Ed joined the R.C.A.F. and got his wings in 1944. He was a member of the Caterpillar Club and was one of 19 airmen that had to bail out of a plane during WWII. He was an electrician with Boyd Electric and eventually for his own business until his retirement in 1990. He was a member of the Kingston Shrine Club, The Order of The Eastern Star (Frontenac Chapter no. 90), the R.C.A.F. Association 416 Wing, the Royal Canadian Legion #560, the Masonic Order, the Order of the Amaranth, the White Shrine of Jerusalem, the Scottish Rites, and also the Rose Croix where he was involved with many wonderful projects. In keeping with Ed's wishes cremation will take place at the James Reid Crematorium. A memorial service celebrating his life will be held on Friday, January 29, 2016 at 1:30pm in the chapel of the James Reid Funeral Home, 1900 John Counter Bvld., Kingston. Followed by a reception in the James Reid Reception Centre. For those who wish donations may be made to St. Paul's Anglican Church in Sydenham, the Shriners Hospital for Children or to the U.H.K.F. (KGH) in Ed's memory.
