Obituary of Robert Dixon Gordon

Robert (Bob) Gordon died peacefully at St. Mary’s of the Lake Hospital in Kingston on February 20, 2017, in his 81st year. Bob was the cherished partner and soul-mate for 40 years of Juliet Milsome, and devoted father to Christopher Gordon (Albert) and Sian Gordon (Gord), and beloved grandpa to Summer Figueroa. He is also survived by his ex-wife Diane Gordon. He was a popular and committed professor in the Department of Chemistry at Queen’s University for 30 years. After retiring in 1996, Bob was involved in a wide variety of volunteer activities including Martha’s Table, the Income Tax Clinic, the Marine Museum and the Rideau Trail. In 2013 he received the City of Kingston Distinguished Citizen Award and in 2010 the Provincial Outstanding Volunteer Award. He was a keen choir singer, was a dedicated member of Chalmers United Church choir for over 40 years and sang in several other local choral groups. Bob loved the outdoors, especially hiking, canoeing, swimming and cross-country skiing.
A private cremation with family and close friends was held at James Reid Funeral Home, on Sunday, February 26, 2017. A service in Celebration of the Life of Dr. Gordon will be held at Chalmers United Church, 212 Barrie Street, Kingston on Saturday, April 1, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. As expressions of sympathy donations may be made to Chalmers United Church or to Martha's Table in Bob's memory.
