Obituary of John Howard Edwards
EDWARDS, Howard J.
February 4, 1934 - January 30, 2017
Surrounded by his family, Howard drifted on to his next journey. Howard lived a full life, mostly in Kingston and the Islands area. He enjoyed his work at DuPont for 35 years. After retirement, he and Connie wintered in Florida socializing with new found friends. With his retirement, Howard decided to take up golf with zeal and attempted to better his game over the course of 25 years as is the practice of any good golfer. While in Florida he coordinated his golf league games, playing three or four times per week and during the summers in Kingston he played golf weekly and went on some fun weekend getaways with his group of golfing friends. Howard played cards and board games with family and friends regularly and as many will attest, he loved to win. Howard and Connie travelled throughout the States on road trips, river cruising in Europe, as well as cruising the oceans. He even tried his hand at raising chickens and pigs embracing the idyllic life of the country side on Howe Island. It was especially important for him to see his children and grandchildren who visited in Florida as well as Kingston for boating, touring the local sites, swimming, cards and other games. He taught his grandchildren to play euchre and other games and to win with utter glee. He was a family man and embraced his extended family, hosting many events, the most significant of which were Thanksgiving dinners on the Island. Howard was a 'doer'. He was an active participant in many Kingston clubs and when he moved to Howe Island he participated on the island council and was an active member of the Howe Island Volunteer Fire Department. Howard enjoyed every minute of his life. Over the past couple of years he was slowing down and required some medical care. He was very appreciative of his rehabilitation sessions at St. Mary's and the kind and gentle encouragement that he received there for his COPD illness. He was also blessed to be under the care of some extraordinary, compassionate medical professionals such as Dr. Laura Milne, Dr. Diane Lougheed, Dr. Fulvio Paolucci, their staff and all of nursing care provided at KGH. A Private Family Service was held, Wednesday, February 1. To commemorate his life, please raise a glass of rum and coke in his memory!
