Obituary of Elsie GRACE

GRACE, Elsie (nee Friendship) December 3, 1922 - August 20, 2016 Elsie Grace, first born child of Roy and Ethel Friendship (nee Johnston), died peacefully at the age of 93 at Fairmount Home. Predeceased by her dear husband Ken Grace, daughter Heather Button (David) and brother Ron Friendship. Survived by best friend and brother Jack Friendship. Also survived by children Judy Green (Dale), David Grace (Chris Long), Barbara Keaveney (Brian), Marjorie Appleton (Ted), Patricia Arges (Michael), and Tim Grace (Dierdre); grandchildren Lisa Maxwell and Andrew Green; Melanie Grace; Andrew and Matthew Keaveney; Warren, Jonathan and Christopher Appleton and Jill White; David and Christopher Arges; Joshua, Samuel, Jeremy and Caleb Button; Olivia Grace; 12 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews and their families. Elsie was born in Kingston, Ontario and, other than a few years in Toronto following her marriage to Ken, she spent her entire life in Kingston. Elsie was a life long contributor to the community, giving generously of her time to Meals on Wheels, Explorers, Canadian Cancer Society, Helen Tufts Nursery School, Ongwanada Community Residence and numerous activities associated with First Baptist Church. In 1987, Ken and Elsie were chosen as Kingston's volunteers of the year. In City Hall's Memorial Hall, they were publicly recognized and honoured for their volunteer services since 1953 as "a cooperative couple who are highly motivated and caring". Elsie was devoted to her family, and particularly enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Many thanks to the staff at Kingsdale and Fairmount Home for their care and attention, and special thanks to Dr. Greg Patey. Visitation will be at JAMES REID FUNERAL HOME, 1900 John Counter Blvd., Kingston, on Thursday August 25th between the hours of 5:00 pm and 8:00 pm. Funeral service will be held in the Chapel of the funeral home, on Friday August 26th at 11:00 am. with Reverend Ronald Albinet officiating. Interment at Cataraqui Cemetery will be followed by a reception in the Reception Centre.
