Obituary of Walter David ADLAM

High Flight Oh, I have slipped the surly bonds of Earth And danced the skies on laughter-silvered wings; Sunward I've climbed, and joined the tumbling mirth Of sun-split clouds - and done a hundred things You have not dreamed of - wheeled and soared and swung High in the sunlit silence; hovering there, I've chased the shouting wing along, and flung My eager craft through footless halls of air.... Up, the long, delirious, burning blue I've topped the wind-swept heights with easy grace Where never a lark, or even eagle flew- And, while the silent lifting mind I've trod The high untrespassed sanctity of space, Put out my hand and touched the face of God. Pilot Officer, John Gillespie Magee Jr. 1941 ADLAM, Walter David, Flt. Lt. R.C.A.F. retired. A view of his log book reveals he piloted the Tiger Moth, Harvard (training), Spitfire, to name a few, and the Vigilant (returning Prince Barnhard of The Netherlands plane to Apeldoorn) was one story that was shared at many of the 410 Sqd. reunions that he and Betty attended in Canada and in Europe. Post war, he received his Bachelor of Science of Forestry at the University of Toronto 1946 - 50, and upon graduating found employ with the Department of Lands and Forests now Ministry of Natural Resources, with positions at various Conservation Authorities in Ontario, noteworthy, the Cataraqui Region from 1966 to 1972 as their first Resource Manager to his retirement from the Ministry in Ottawa as District Manager at the age of 63. He loved his job, passionate about natural resource management - forestry, provincial parks, fish and wildlife, mineral resources, forest fires prevention, Crown lands, and overseeing diversified programs of sustainability. David and Betty enjoyed an active social life in the small village of Manotick forming lifelong friendships with everyone they met, and discovering old ones from the past.
