Obituary of Dorothy May Bernier

Bernier, Dorothy

1927-2021

Dorothy passed away at Rideaucrest home on February 17th, 2021. Ending a long struggle with Dementia/Alzheimers.  She leaves behind her loving and devoted husband John of 50 years “Her Rock and best friend”. Deeply loved and understood by daughter Judy Jones. Predeceased by 2 sons; Christopher and Garry (Linda). Also predeceased by sister; June Simpson and brother James Ruttan (Barb), lost to the ravages of the same decease. She leaves behind 1 sister Mable Shelley living with the same illness. She will be remembered fondly by several nieces and nephews.

Dorothy took great joy in her 3 grandchildren: Christopher, Andrew, and Jaclyn and her 6 greatgrandchildren.

Dorothy was a strong woman who lived through the depression, made shell boxes at Gibbard’s Furniture in Napanee during WW2, to making shirts at Hathaway, to making computer boards at Microtel. But will be remembered most for the scrumptious family dinners (especially Christmas Turkey dinner) at their beloved little house in Prescott.

Dorothy left this world in bright morning sunshine after a winter storm and is now happily reunited with “her boys”.

The family wish to thank the kind and caring staff on GWT at Rideaucrest LTC especially those in her final days for their gentle TLC.

As keeping with family wishes, cremation has taken place at the James Reid Funeral Home with no services at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, donations would be kindly appreciated to the Alzheimer’s Society of Kingston in Dorothy’s memory.
