It is with heavy hearts that the staff here at Fort Henry heard of the passing of FHG 265, David Cruickshank. Long after David left the Fort he continued to support and inspire future generations through his passion for learning and music. Previously a drummer in the Fort Henry Guard, he continued to be an active supporter and member of the Fort Henry Guard Club of Canada and donated the Drum Recruit of the Year Award to those that followed in his footsteps filling the Fort Henry with the resounding sound of music, marching and a comradery that lasts a lifetime. He had the honor of marching for the Queen, drumming in some of the earliest Joint Ceremonials with the United States Marine Corps which remain iconic events in the history of the Fort today. Rest Easy.
- Kathryn Lowe, Manager, Fort Henry

Was so saddened to hear of the passing of David and send condolences to Jean and family. I have many happy memories of time spent at Far Away Farm. My Mum Vivian who was matron for the boys in Glass house at BCS and my brother David who was at BCS from grade 5 to 12 were very fond of David and family. I enjoyed midnight ski trips through their woods and helped on occasion to help prepare for the outwood bound trips. Enjoyed time spent with them and their beautiful children. I would love to reconnect with Jean and family so will leave my phone number 8195664195, I am living in Sherbrooke(Lennoxville) love to you all Susan Fisher Black

Our heartfelt condolences to Jean and all the family from Doug & Marianne. Doug has great memories of young David riding his bike up the hill trying to get a job with the Fort Henry Guard, many good years together there. Then while Doug was doing the high school liaison visits for Queens he enjoyed the visits to BCS as a chance to visit with David & Jean at the Farm. The move to Wolfe Island meant we got to see them more, especially at Guard reunions. Our hearts go out to you. Cherish the memories of a wonderful life together, but still it's over too soon. Love & hugs from both of us. Marianne & Doug Thompson, FHG 154.

I'm very sorry to hear of the death of (for us) Dave Cruikshank. We spent 3 fun and memorable years together with Bishop's University choir - the Deep Purples - which he directed, in the late 1960's. We still tell stories of those rich times and remember him with admiration and fondness. Roger Taylor

Mr. Cruickshank was my choirmaster and teacher at BCS from 1966-1970. I have always remembered him with respect and fondness. He made my time at Bishop’s brighter than it might have otherwise been. George Goodwin

It is with a great deal of sadness that I heard of David's passing. I have many fond memories of little chats each week at church at St. George's Cathedral. He and Jean came so faithfully, accompanying his mother before her passing a short while back at the age of 110. I always enjoyed our chats and his interest in things. I had looked forward to the post-pandemic period to be able to see you both again. Jean please know my most heartfelt thoughts are being sent your way and all best wishes for both you and your family. Please know love and prayers are being sent your way.
Sincerely,
Kevin Raison

Dear Jean and family - it was with deep sorrow that I just read about the passing of DAG. What a true gentleman he was and how he will be missed. He was so supportive of me while at BCS. Always full of humour and guidance!
Sending you all a ton of love and strength at this very sad time.
