Obituary of John Dodd LYON

LYON, Dr. John Dodd, D.D.S.

Peacefully in his sleep on Tuesday, June 21, 2016 at the Kingston General Hospital in his 94th year. He was born in Arnprior, Ontario on March 27, 1923 to Margaret and Clarence Duncan Lyon. John lived in Arnprior, Brockville and Kingston where he attended K.C.I. He was a proud pilot of the Royal Canadian Air Force. He graduated from the School of Dentistry - University of Toronto in 1951. Beloved husband of the late Helen Evelyn (Geraldi) Lyon and the late Donna (Rose) Campbell-Lyon. Dear father of daughters Judy Secker (John), Suzanne Gee (Ken), Heather Jean Manning (Gord) and Mary Helen Lyon Garsch and sons John E.D. Lyon (Sherry Browne Corneil) all of Kingston and Gerald S. Lyon (Bev Carnegie) of Ottawa. He was especially proud of his grandchildren and great grandchildren Katy Mountain, Aidan and Nadia; Krissy and Bruce Mitchell, Madeline and Emily; Brian Secker; Steven and Jaimie Gee, Reed and Graham; Sarah and Paul Blenkhorn, Sadie and Bradley; Scott and Megan Gee, Maren; Megan and James Scala, Rowan and Morgan;  Julie Manning; Maren Garsch; Andrew and Jesika Garsch, Mally and Westin; Micheil Lyon; Adam and Megan Lyon, Ayden; Anthony Lyon and Cory Lyon. Predeceased by his brother Stewart and his wife Evelyn Lyon and his sisters Betty Lyon and Lillie (Keith) Elliott. Survived by his youngest brother Donald and his wife Dorothy and nieces and nephews. Remembered by Donna's children, H. Reid Campbell (Laurel Darnell), Laurie Donovan (Ron), Neil Campbell (Joanne) and Nina Jonas (Werner). He was President of the Church Athletic League, member of the Kingston District Dental Society and Ontario Dental Association and a loyal Kingston Frontenacs fan. He was a longtime member of Chalmers United Church. John's interests included gardening, boating, water skiing, dancing, live music and travelling the world with his family and friends. He enjoyed many happy summers at the family cottage on Loughborough Lake and the view of Kingston from his homes on the Rideau. His family would like to extend a special thank you to Laura Brady, Dad's night time care giver for her care and support and his Personal Support Workers from Care Partners especially Ryan, Steven and Crystal. Our appreciation to the staff in Emergency and on Connell 10 at Kingston General Hospital. A visitation for family and friends will be held on Sunday, June 26, 2016 from 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. at the JAMES REID FUNERAL HOME, 1900 John Counter Blvd. Funeral Service will be held on Monday, June 27, 2016 at 1:30 p.m. in the Chapel of the Funeral Home with Rev. Nancy Clarke officiating. Inurnment to follow at Cataraqui Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations to the charity of your choice would be appreciated.
