Obituary of Eva Marguerite Thompson
December 18, 1927 - July 28, 2020
It is with a celebration of life that we announce the death of Eva Marguerite Thompson (nee Street) in her 93rd year.
Wife of Clifford Ferguson Thompson (deceased). Dear Mother of Rose Bell (late Lawrence) (Carlos), Gail Irving (late Jim) (Tom), Debra Carageorge (Tony), Steve Thompson, Shelley Asselstine (Mark).
She will be deeply missed by her grandchildren April Bell-Asselstine (Troy), Lawrence Bell (Rita), Justin Bell, Michael Irving (Keri), Julie Lalonde (Roch Carrier), Amber Asselstine, Hunter Asselstine
and by her great-grandchildren Braedyn Asselstine, Sydney Bell, Chloe Bell, Wilder Asselstine, Zoey Lalonde, Mia Lalonde, Olivier Carrier, Xavier Carrier.
Predeceased by parents Eva and Conley Street, brothers Morley, Harold, Lawrence, Ross, Ronald, Mervyn; sisters May Hogeboom (George) and June Baker (Ron). Survived by sisters Fern Crews (late Bill), Rose Friendship (Alfred Wilson), Betty Anne Knapp (Richard) and brother Gary (Marilyn). Eva Marguerite was very proud of her three older brothers who joined the Canadian Armed Forces during WWII and returned safely home after the war.
Marguerite was a kind and gentle person who was devoted to her family. She and her husband Clifford built their home together in Kingston 64 years ago and raised their five children there. They loved their cottage on Sydenham Lake and spent many happy hours swimming, boating, fishing and barbequing with family and friends. Marguerite was proud of her ability and the ability of her children and grandchildren to swim and enjoy the cottage life.
Marguerite was an advocate for a healthy life style and promoted healthy eating and exercise. She enjoyed the outdoors especially the walking adventures with her dog Digger. She enjoyed and actively participated in exercise classes at Helen Henderson Care Centre.
Marguerite was a private person and proudly independent yet an advocate for human rights especially for women and children. She was a life -long learner and earned her Certificate in Stenography at St. Lawrence College in 1973. She was very proud of her ongoing educational accomplishments. Her desire for self learning was a model for her children and grandchildren.
We wish to thank the Administration and Staff of Helen Henderson Care Centre for their ongoing care and compassion shown to Eva Marguerite and providing a home away from home during her stay with them. Your dedication and kindness to our Mother will always be remembered.
Funeral arrangements were placed in the care of JAMES REID FUNERAL HOME. The family gathered privately for a graveside service at Glenhaven Memorial Gardens with The Venerable Bill Clarke officiating.
In lieu of flowers, donations if desired, may be made to Gibson Family Charitable Foundation at Helen Henderson Care Centre, or the Humane Society and would be greatly appreciated by the family.
