Obituary of Guy White
Steadfast until the end, (Kenneth) Guy White died at KGH after a brief illness on July 21, 2020. In his final days, he was surrounded by his loved ones and music.
Born July 12, 1944, in Kingston, Guy graduated from Regiopolis College and went on to receive a BA from St. Thomas University in Fredericton, NB, and a BPhe, BEd, and MEd from Queen’s University. Guy excelled in sports but was particularly skilled at baseball and hockey. He is a member of the Kingston & District Sports Hall of Fame (2007), St. Thomas University Tommies Wall of Fame as part of the 1966-67 men’s hockey team that went on to represent New Brunswick in the first-ever Canada Winter Games and the Regiopolis-Notre Dame Hall of Fame as both an athlete and a builder.
Guy was a longtime educator, beginning his career at RND in the 1970s as a teacher and eventually guidance counsellor, moving to Holy Cross in the 1990s. He ended his career at Holy Family School, where he was principal for several years.
Guy loved his family, and leaves behind his beloved wife, Carol (nee Clancy) of almost 52 years, cherished daughters Amy (Joshua Bullock), Gillian (Ryan Boughton), treasured grandchildren, Benjamin, Jesse, Christopher, Chuck, Madison, Ashlynn, and Mitchell. sister Mary Charlotte Mahood (Don), sisters in law Mary Clancy, Marilyn Bowie (Gord) and Sharon White, brothers in law Wayne Clancy (Pat), and Paul Clancy (Sheila Marleau), Guy will be fondly remembered by his many adored nieces and nephews from the Clancy and White families, and many friends and family near and far.
He is preceded in death by his children, Chris and Ashley White, brother Daniel White, sister Theresa Fowler, and parents Charlotte (Rochefort), and Ken White.
Guy was a gracious and hardworking man that treated everyone he came across as a friend. He will be remembered as a caring and kind teacher and coach that touched the lives of many, and rarely forgot a face, even though suffering from dementia in the last few years. He had a great sense of humour, loved to gently tease, dance, and be social. As an athlete, he enjoyed being a member of many teams, and his signature whistle could be heard around many ball diamonds.
He took on dementia with determination; researching and fighting hard against it. Guy and our family appreciated his great friends that helped facilitate his golf playing, curling, and attending his monthly men’s group meetings.
The family wishes to thank the nursing staff on Kidd 9 for the loving care provided for Guy.
