Obituary of Jean Durnford Thompson

Thompson, Jean Durnford (MacRae)

Passed away in her 100th year at Kingsbridge Retirement Community on June

10, 2020. Born January 10, 1921 to George and Betty MacRae in Oxford, Nova

Scotia. Predeceased by two sons Roderick (one day) and Cameron (age 35),

sister Doreen, brothers Robert and Gerald, nephew Allan.

Jean is survived by beloved son Ronald (Patty) of Smiths Falls, three

grandchildren, 8 nieces and 7 nephews.

Jean graduated as a Registered Nurse (Toronto General Hospital) 1943 and

joined RDAMC (Lt. Nursing Sister). Her varied nursing career that lasted until

retirement at 75 years of age included four years at the military hospital in

Germany, in Canada working neurosurgery, ophthalmology, obstetrics, intensive

care, hospital administration, nursing home administration and finally

Correctional Services.

Friends and relatives have filled Jean's life with love and activities. A major

activity in Jean's 70s and 80s was her membership in the Rideau Trail

Association for which she frequently volunteered to lead hikes and was

repeatedly elected to serve on the executives of the Association and the

Kingston Club.

Special thanks are extended to niece Brenda (D.J.) Campbell of Stellarton, N.S.,

dear friends Carolyn Beatty and Dawna Winges, the caregivers of Limestone

Home Health Care, and the staff of Kingsbridge Retirement Community who

have all lovingly cared for and supported our dear Jean.

To the end, Jean remained quick witted, always elegantly dressed and a gentle

lady.

Due to Covid 19 restrictions a private family interment will be held.

Donations in Jean's memory may be made to the Rideau Trail Association.
