Obituary of Cathrine Ann Taunton
Cathrine Ann Taunton (nee Woodings)78 of Kingston, ON, passed away peacefully on June 15, 2023, surrounded by her 5 children.
Cathy was born on August 16, 1944 to Jack and Eileen Woodings in Montreal, Quebec. At a very young age she went off to work to help support her family.
In 1960, she met Walter “Bill” Taunton through a mutual friend, Brian Conroy, and they wed on January 12, 1962, going on to have 5 children, Robert (Mitzi), Sue, Sandra (Mike), Wanda (Larry) and William (Patti).
When Cathy had Bob, she decided to dedicate her life to being a fantastic and wonderful mother. She also excelled at propping up members of her family and supporting them through the many passions and difficulties of their lives.
She was also a very loving Grandmother of 16, and Great Grandmother of 17 and loved to be called Nana.
Part of her passion for many years was looking after neighborhood children and there are countless numbers of them and to this day virtually all of them still refer to her as Nana and she loved them all.
When she wasn’t filling her home with warmth and kindness, she could be found in her rocking chair knitting away making countless pieces of baby clothing. Her love of knitting eventually rubbed off on both of her Granddaughters, Laura and Ashleigh, who both share the same passion and do beautiful work of their own.
She also loved music and could be heard singing out loud to anything playing in the room.
Cathy was predeceased by her spouse Bill, her brother Tom and her sister Judy. She is survived by her sister Patricia and brother Henry.
The family requests that in lieu of flowers to please make a donation to The Canadian Cancer Society. There will be a Memorial / Celebration of Life on Thursday June 22, 2023, from 2-4pm at the James Reid Funeral Home, 1900 John Counter Blvd., Kingston.
