Obituary of Lorraine Catherine Smythe
Lorraine Catherine Smythe (nee Riley), born on April 13, 1937, passed away on February 12, 2023 at the age of 85. Predeceased by her beloved husband T. Edward Smythe and her dear daughter-in-law Sarah Smythe. Dearly missed by her treasured children, David (Lynn Carmichael), Catherine (Doug) Adair, and Steven (Belinda Magnanelli).
Remembered affectionately by her cherished grandchildren, Dylan Adair (Cassidy Bemister), Caylea Adair, and her adored great-grandson, Jaxon Adair.
She is the first child of, and predeceased by parents James and Constance Riley. Survived by her three siblings, Marjorie (Jim) Murray, Marilyn (late Normand) Nault, and Edward (Linda) Riley; her many nieces and nephews and their families.
Lorraine loved travel, books, music, and singing - but above all - she loved nurturing the relationships in her life. Always claiming to be shy, she was somehow always the life of the party with her contagious laughter and witty jokes. She enjoyed a life full of wonderful experiences residing both in Canada and Germany, had a long and devoted marriage, and she wore many hats, and wore them well.
The family extends a special and sincere thank you to Ed and Linda for their support, love, and care for Lorraine that has never wavered. Additionally, there are many thanks extended to Cataraqui Heights and the many friends she made there, for providing Lorraine with a happy living environment for the last few months; to Kingston General Hospital for the unrelenting action and care.
In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Canada – a charity Lorraine contributed to routinely in honour of her late husband Edward.
