Obituary of Margery Una Low

Although deeply saddened by our loss, Margery’s family are heartened to announce that our Mom has departed this earthly realm and is once again joined with her husband/our father James, ‘Jamie’.  Margery died on October 3, 2022 in her 97th year, at the Kingston General Hospital which played an important part of hers and Jamie/Jim’s life during the past 58 years.

Margery/Midge was born on February 5, 1926 to Norman and Una Harris and lived in the Burlington/St. Catherine’s/Toronto area with her parents and sister Elizabeth (Betty) as a young girl.  She attended St Mildred’s College, now known as St. Mildred’s Lightbourn School, for the entirety of her education and entered Wellesley Hospital, College of Nursing where she graduated in 1948.  She was awarded a scholarship to do a postgraduate study program in Operating Room Techniques in England and then returned to serve at the Wellesley Hospital as an operating room nurse.  It was while she was serving at the Wellesley that she met her husband/our father, James Alexander Low, to whom she was married on October 4th, 1952 for 63 years, until his sad death on February 15th, 2015 - from which our Mom never really recovered.

She was predeceased by her parents, Una (Emory) from Burlington Ontario and Norman Harris (Essex, England); her sister Elizabeth (Bridges) and brother-in-law Harold Bridges.  Her passions were her family, her church and her friends.

Margery is survived by those who loved her dearly and to whom she devoted her life; her children: Donald Edward (Diana) of Seattle Washington and their children, Sally Schroedel (Max) and their sons James and Henry; Alexander (Allison) and their daughter Elizabeth; and Katherine Ketcham (Todd) and their sons Alec and Colin: daughter Margaret Chandler (Tim) of Baltimore MD and their children, daughter Stephanie Chandler (Karl Migally) and son Christopher (Teresa Lee) and their daughters Agatha, Eleanor and Mildred (Milly): and their son Norman Ian (Lori) of Kanata, Ontario and their sons, Andrew (Erin) and Scott.  Margery was immensely proud of every member of her family and counted her blessings every day of her life. She was, in turn, loved by each and every one of us!

Her family is planning a Celebration of Life service at St. Thomas’ Anglican Church, Kingston, the church that was her religious home for the past 58 years since her arrival in Kingston. The date is TBD and will be announced later this month on St. Thomas’s website, http://www.stthomaskingston.ca.  Gifts in her memory should be directed to St. Thomas’ Anglican Church.

Our mother will be profoundly missed by her family and friends who knew and loved her so dearly, but we are eternally grateful that she is once more with ‘Jamie’/our Dad and her heavenly Father.

Arrangements have been entrusted to James Reid Funeral Home.
