Obituary of Robert Andrew Ogilvie
Robert Ogilvie passed away peacefully in his sleep on Monday May 4th in his hometown of Kingston, Ontario at the age of 78. Bob leaves behind sons Matthew (Terri), Andrew (Anita), and Mark (Alanda, pre-deceased). Bob was affectionately known as “Papa” to his cherished grandchildren Grace, Drew, Gordon, Satria, Evan, Olivia, Ella and Ava. Pre-deceased by his brother Bill (Pat) and forever missed by his sister Joan (Dave) and brother Brian.
A native of Barriefield, Bob maintained an active role in his community by volunteering countless hours for numerous organizations throughout his lifetime. Most notably was his time spent coaching minor hockey at the Harold Harvey arena where he was known simply as “Coach”. Bob took great pride as a reserve with the Prince of Wales Own Regiment and in later years volunteered much of his time for their association. Bob spent most his working years with the Kingston Psychiatric Hospital before retiring from the Ministry of Transportation in St. Catharines.
Bob is best remembered for his devotion to his family. His grandchildren will always remember his generosity and his ability to make them feel like the most important people in any room. His sons appreciate the time he spent at local arenas and ball diamonds as their biggest fan.
The family would like to thank the staff at Briargate. Due to the current pandemic, a private funeral will take place this week. A celebration of life will be held at a later date.
Donations in Bob’s honour can be made to Alzheimer Society of Canada.
