Obituary of Lavere Rose Harris

It is with sadness that we announce the passing of Lavere Rose Harris, but it is with much joy that we celebrate her 104 years on this earth, and all the hearts she touched along the way.  A life well lived indeed.

Lavere was predeceased by her wonderful husband of 52 years, William.  She was a loving and devoted mother to Susan and Clyde (Janine).  Lavere cherished her role as grandmother to Krista, Kathleen, Tim, Aaron (deceased), Casey, Matthew and Jocelyn.  She felt particularly blessed that she was a great-grandmother to William, Austin, Skylar, Sloane, Evelyn and Mackenzie.  Lavere was a “family first” person and we all benefitted from her love, care and kindness.

A lifelong member of the United Church of Canada, Lavere enjoyed many roles at Queen St. United Church in Kingston: Sunday school teacher/superintendant, UCW president, church secretary, to name only a few.  She often remarked how much she relied on her faith during her long and eventful lifetime.

Lavere leaves behind her lifelong friend of 88 years, Muriel Maughan.  The two have shared an inseparable bond since they first met in 1934! Our two families have so many fond memories together covering many years and many generations.

We would also like to acknowledge and thank our long time neighbour from Kingston, Diana, whose thoughtfulness and kindness was much appreciated by our family.  Mom was also the beneficiary of the kindness and generosity of many of her Kingston friends including Isabelle, Betty, Margaret, Carole and Mary, who was a faithful companion and took Mom to many community events.

Thanks to all the people in the Orillia community who made Lavere feel so welcome.  Your visits and kind words always brought a smile to her face.

We send our heartfelt thanks to all the staff at Spencer House whose exemplary care and compassion provided Lavere with an excellent quality of life.  We will be forever grateful to the hard working crew on Maple Lane.  Bless you all.

Cremation has taken place and a celebration of Lavere’s life will take place at James Reid Funeral Home, 1900 John Counter Blvd., Kingston, ON., Saturday September 17 at 2:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations to Crossroads United Church, 690 Sir John A Macdonald Blvd. Kingston are appreciated.
