Obituary of Margaret Elizabeth Keogh

Margaret Keogh (nee McFadden) 1924 - 2022, passed away in Barrie on June 24, 2022, after a brief and rapid decline in health. She leaves her beloved children Gordon (Carol), Sharon (Paul White), Nadine (Scott Morrison) and her daughter-in-law Darlene, her grandchildren, Geoff, Peter, Gessika, Cole, Everett, Craig, and great grandmother to Chris, Roberto, Abby, Jeff, Jonathon, Jack, Joy and Kade. Marg was predeceased by her husband Vinton in 2011 and her youngest son Everett in 2020, as well as her parents Gordon and Myrtle McFadden, and brothers Rae (Gwen), Kenneth (Betty), Earl (Linda) and John. Marg was raised on the family farm and went onto teach school and became a nurse. She met and married her sailor in 1948 and became a strong parent raising her family alone while Vint was away on the boats. She made many wonderful friends in the Cataraqui United Church, fraternal groups and the wider community. She was a gifted baker, loved to decorate wedding cakes and made a lot of beautiful art in quilting. Marg's one hope was that she leaves her little corner of the world better than she found it.
We would like to thank the staff at the RVH for the kind and compassionate care she received. Under the supervision of Dr. Cohen, she had her final and unwavering wish to be medically assisted in dying (MAID). With Nadine, Gordon, and Sharon bedside, she began her journey into the life that is beyond this life.
We would also like to thank the staff at the Waterford for the care received over the past 7 years. True to character, she cultivated many friendships especially with the young men and women.

Margaret’s family will receive friends at the James Reid Funeral Home, 1900 John Counter Blvd., on Sunday, August 7, 2022 from 11:00 am – 12:00pm, followed by an Eastern Star Service of Remembrance at 12:00 pm and Celebration of Life Ceremony at 12:15 pm.  A reception will be held in the James Reid Reception Centre at the conclusion of the celebration for all those to attend.  A private family interment will be held at the Cataraqui Cemetery.  For those who wish donations in Margaret's memory may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society or to the Parkinson Society Canada.

Warm summer sun,
Shine kindly here,
Warm southern wind,
Blow softly here.
Green sod above,
Lie light, lie light.
