Obituary of Mick Lewis
Ronald (Mick) Lloyd Lewis June 15, 1928-May 14, 2022.
It is with profound sadness and love; we announce the passing of the last member of the Sunny Brae Lewis family at Kingston General Hospital, Kingston Ontario.
Ronald (Mick) Lewis was predeceased by his parents, Frank Lewis and Katherine Berry, by his sisters: Margaret Campbell, Mildred Lewis, Dorothy Smith, Freda Lavoie, Pauline Bland, Marilyn Dunfield and his brother Paul. Mick married his first wife Marion (Betty) Dodge on July 14, 1951 and had one son, William (Bill). Betty passed away in 1974 after a lengthy battle with cancer. Mick remarried and he and Dorothie (Dot) Lott were together for 45 years until her death in December 2021.
Mick’s surviving family includes his son Bill and wife Shane, their children and grandchildren, Ted and Elaine (Audrey and Gwen), Ben and Mallory (Milo and Daisy) and his stepdaughter Linda Lott.
Mick enjoyed life to the fullest and appreciated many pursuits whether it was RVying with his family, fishing and hunting with family and friends, playing baseball, umping Bill’s games or snowmobiling. His particular passion in his 30’s was curling where he achieved every curlers dream, of curling with your provincial team at the 1960 Brier.
Mick and Dot moved back to Roachville from Moncton in 1978. Mick continued to work for NB Telephone until he retired after working for the company for 36 years. Upon retirement, he began a new pursuit- woodworking which he excelled at. Over the next 8 years Mick produced beautiful bowls, clocks, spice racks, communion bowls, and lamps in his “workshop”. He then turned his attention to making furniture for family and friends; it is an honour to have an item in your home from Mick’s workshop.
Mick never stopped honing his shooting skills at the Moncton Gun Club and at shoots around the Maritimes. His skill as a shooter and a volunteer culminated in his receiving on August 10, 2016, a Lifetime Achievement award from the Atlantic Trap and Skeet Association for “his great sportsmanship, skill and integrity”. Mick was the last charter member of the Moncton Gun Club, a Mason for 70 years and an NB Telephone pioneer.
Mick was a dog lover and there was always a dog(s) around and occasionally puppies as the family began raising Labradors and Rottweilers in the dog Kennel at the house in Roachville.
A celebration of life will take place at a later date.
Donations in lieu of flowers can be made to the Moncton Gun Club or the Canadian Alzheimer’s Society.
“My father gave me the greatest gift anyone could give another person, he believed in me”
Thank you Dad/Mick,
Bill and Linda.
