Obituary of Ernie Grenier
Ernest Joseph Grenier
September 8th, 1942 - January 20th, 2022.
Born Malartic Quebec.
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our father, Ernest Joseph Grenier, at Kingston General Hospital on January 20th after a long battle with cancer.
Loving husband of 59 years to Anne Grenier (née Giroux) and devoted father to Lynne (Michael) and Alain (Sophia). Beloved grandfather to Hannah and Connor Bockholt, and Caleb and Isabelle Grenier, who brought him great joy and whom he loved with all his heart.
Ernest was predeceased by his parents Honoré and Josephine Grenier, sister Kathleen, and brother Fernand. He will be greatly missed by his surviving brothers and sisters, Lucien (Yvette) and Camil (Diane), Aline (Robert), and Louise (Jacques) and will be fondly remembered by his many nieces and nephews, extended family, and friends.
Ernest, "Ernie”, “Ti-nest" was born in Malartic, Quebec on September 8th. 1942. This small northern town is where Ti-nest grew up, developed his love of hockey and family, and where he eventually met his future wife. After playing for the Peterborough Pete’s for several seasons, he retired from junior A hockey to start a new life and family with his new bride. In Kapuskasing, Ernie continued to play hockey for many years; playing for the Kap GMs, the Screaming Eagles, and eventually the Old Timers before hanging up his skates to play golf, travel, and pursue other interests.
Grandpapa Ernie will always be remembered for his of family and song, having a special serenade for each of this granddaughters and often joining his son and son-in-law in an Elvis Presley tune or two. His friends and acquaintances will remember his dry sense of humour, dedication to politics, and especially his “dislike” of certain politicians.
The immediate family will have a closed celebration of life this summer to honor and celebrate his life in Sydenham Ontario.
