Obituary of Claudette Marie Oehring
In the early hours of Friday January 14th , Claudette passed away peacefully at 79 years of age. Dear wife to George and loving mother to Magda (Paul) and cherished grandmother to Jacob. She was the daughter of Antonio Couture and Yvonne Couture Perreault, both from Lac-Mégantic. She is predeceased by her brothers Raymond, Marcel, Réjean and André and her sister Pierrette. She will be fondly remembered by many nieces and nephews. Claudette was born on May 30, 1942 in Lac-Mégantic where she grew up until she left home to study to become a nurse. She studied and worked in Sherbrooke Québec. She served in the Royal Canadian Navy as a nurse and met her love, George (retired Colonel, Royal Canadian Artillery) at the Army Officer’s Mess in St Hubert Québec in 1968. They were married in 1969 and had their daughter, Magda, in 1971. Claudette took the many moves in stride. She created a loving home no matter the location; throughout Ontario, Victoria BC and Lahr Germany. This was no small feat for anyone who knows what it’s like to be an Army Officer’s Wife. Although she no longer worked as a nurse, true to her nature, she was instinctively nurturing and she touched the lives of many friends and family. For anyone who was lucky enough to be welcomed into her home, she truly was the consummate hostess. She loved music, cooking, and reading, but most of all, she loved her family. Claudette left us too early, she will be eternally missed. There will be a service at Beechwood Cemetery in Ottawa in the spring. The family would also like to sincerely thank the staff at the Windsor Retirement Transition Unit for their care and devotion to Claudette.
