Obituary of Rita McGrattan
Rita McGrattan, beloved Kingston entertainer passed away peacefully at Kingston General Hospital, on Saturday, May 22, 2021, at the age of 90.
She is predeceased by her partner Doug and is survived by her son Peter (Brigitte), daughter Jane and beloved granddaughter Emma.
She was a mother, friend and confidante to many in the Kingston community. Rita was a staple on the Kingston music and theatre scene for over 40 years, belting out jazz tunes as easily as she could gain a few laughs dressed as the Queen of England. She found huge success off-stage as well with her self-produced production of the McGrattan Family. Her role as the wise-cracking matriarch of the McGrattan’s received rave reviews and was a role she held for 60 years. She received her first and only Emma award in 1995 with the birth of her granddaughter and happily embraced the dual roles of the singing/dancing mother/grandmother up until she took her final bow on Saturday.
The family would like to thank the people at St. Elizabeth and the staff of Connell 9 for the extraordinary care that Rita received.
So, this is one last Good Night, one last wave, hug and one last kiss. Goodbye Mumsy.
Condolences and donations in memory of Rita to the Alzheimers’ Society of KFL&A, Kingston Humane Society or the Partners in Mission Food Bank would be appreciated by the family and may be arranged through James Reid Funeral Home website under Rita’s obituary.
