Obituary of Elva Gertrude Metcalfe
Metcalfe, Elva Gertrude
1926-2021
Metcalfe, Elva Gertrude (nee Mouldey) – On March 9, 2021, Elva passed away peacefully with family by her side. A lifelong Kingstonian, Elva was well-loved by many. Born August 17, 1926 to John Russell (Busty) and Helen Mouldey she was later joined by her dear brother Douglas in 1928. She married the love of her life James (Metzie) Metcalfe in 1946 and they later welcomed two children Robert and Susan. In 1948, they opened the West End Lunch at the corner of Princess and MacDonnell and in 1953 they moved across the street and opened Metcalfe’s Lil Ole Chicken House. In 1958 Elva and Jimmie moved out to “the township” and opened the Malt Shop across from Frontenac Secondary School where Elva provided comfort food and a sympathetic ear to countless students and patrons for the next 30 years. After retiring she enjoyed spending time with family and always spoke of her grandchildren with deep pride when catching up with friends and family.
Elva leaves behind her son Robert Metcalfe and her daughter Susan Metcalfe. Her granddaughters Marnie (Ted) Girard, Stefanie Sammon, and Allyson Myers (Joe Cordeau) and her great-grandchildren Emma, Ryan, Quinn, Molly, Samuel, and Henry.
She is predeceased by her husband Jimmie of 61 years, daughter-in-law Audrey Metcalfe, her brother and parents along with and many beloved family pets.
Family will be holding a private graveside service at a later time. Donations to the Kingston Youth Shelter in Elva’s memory are appreciated. We invite you to don your best outfit, play some Tony Bennett or Frank Sinatra and raise a glass in her memory.
