Obituary of Donald Bruce MACNAUGHTON

Dr. Don MacNaughton, M.D. C.M. CCFP- Peacefully on Monday, April 4, 2016 in his 87th year with family at his side. For 62 years, beloved husband of Barbara MacNaughton, the girl next door when he first arrived at university in 1947, who later became a nurse and worked alongside him for many years. Dear father to Bruce MacNaughton (Karen) and Dr. Don MacNaughton (Dr. Jane MacNaughton). Affectionately known as Donnie to his grandchildren, Kaitlin Corrigan (Pat), Iain MacNaughton (Heather), and Jonathan MacNaughton taken much too soon. He is survived by his brother Bill McNaughton and fondly remembered by his niece, nephews, and many cousins. Angus, his amazing beagle, will certainly miss their times together. Originally from Windsor, he attended Queen s School of Medicine graduating in 1954. A deeply dedicated and caring family physician, he practiced in Kingston for over 45 years. He relished family times at the cottage, his Shangri-La . An avid golfer, even with failing eyesight, he embraced modern technology to help find the ball. He always had an enquiring mind, and he had particular interest in history and religion. He was passionate about growing roses and very creative in his attempts to keep squirrels away from his bird feeders! At family dinners he greatly enjoyed telling his grandchildren how things used to be, with these stories inevitably ending with his distinctive Don laugh. Special thanks to the KGH ICU staff for their very warm, gentle and compassionate care. With deep gratitude, we also wish to acknowledge his long-term friendship with Don Foster, and all the support he has given. A memorial service will be held at Chalmers United Church (212 Barrie St) on April 22, 2016 at 2:30 in the afternoon, with a reception to follow in MacCallum Hall. Cremation was held at James Reid Crematorium and interment will be in Cataraqui Cemetery. In remembrance, donations to Chalmer s United Church or the Canadian National Institute for the Blind (CNIB), or an act of kindness in Don' s memory, would be appreciated by the family.
