de Lugt, Joan Sophie - July 16, 1927 to March 25, 2016 - In loving memory of Joan Sophie de Lugt (nee Ellis) beloved wife of Gerald for almost 60 years. Loving mother of Louise, Jennifer, Michael (Jane), Duncan (Lorraine) and grandmother to Kate, Dave (Julie), Devon and Brandon. Born in Blackawton, Devon, England in 1927, Joan received training at St. Bartholomew`s Hospital in London, England and became a State Registered Nurse in 1950, then she continued her training at the Brighton Hospital for her Midwifery Certification in 1951. In 1954, she took a nursing position at the Roan Antelope Copper Mine in Luanshya, Zambia, where she met and married Gerald. They were blessed with four children and immigrated to Canada in 1968 eventually settling in Kingston, their final home. Joan loved to read, travel and particularly enjoyed challenging crossword and jigsaw puzzles. She was predeceased by her parents, Robert and Doris Ellis and her brother, Brian. Our sincere thanks to the Waterford Staff, Dr. Riddick, the nursing as well as the support staff for their outstanding care, love and support. Joan volunteered with Hospice Kingston for several years. In lieu of flowers, a donation to Hospice Kingston or to the charity of your choice would be appreciated. Please join us for a Celebration of Joan 's Life at the WATERFORD RETIREMENT RESIDENCE (471 Cataraqui Woods Drive) on Friday April 1st, between 3 and 5 pm, with words of remembrance at 3:15pm.
