1925-2018
Margaret Elizabeth, "Betty" was born in Chance Harbour, N.B. on June 21st, 1925. Betty passed away in Kingston, Ontario at the Fairmount Nursing Home on the 23rd of March, 2018, in her 93rd year; daughter of Blanche Melvina Mawhinney (nee Tiner), and Arthur Saye Mawhinney; survived by her husband Henry Kenneth "Harry", sons George Henry "Harry" (Clare Morris) and Brian Kenneth (Kathleen Davidson), and grandchildren Kara Holm, Michelle Brinklow, Alistair James "Jamie" (Sydney Houston-Goudge), and great-grandchild Gala. Predeceased by her grandson Iain Alexander, two brothers Lloyd (Norma Porter) and Ervin Mawhinney and her sister Grace Waldron. Betty is also survived by her brother Gordon Mawhinney (Muriel), brother in law Donald Waldron, sister in law Jean Belding Mawhinney, sister in law Shirley MacDonald, many nieces, nephews and cousins and many loving friends and neighbours.
Betty graduated from Normal School in Fredericton, N.B. at age 17 and taught primary school for over 45 years. In her middle years she achieved a B.A. degree from Queen's University in Kingston. A faithful Anglican all her life. She was an avid scrabble and bridge player and enjoyed a long retirement amongst family in Chance Harbour, New Brunswick.
Cremation will be followed by a Memorial Service at Fairmount Nursing Home 2069 Battersea Road, Glenburnie (Kingston), Ontario on the 14th of April at 10am. There will be a visitation from 9-9:45am before the service. Interment of ashes with her family to be held at Mace's Bay, New Brunswick at a later date. Donations to Fairmount Nursing Home for support of patient care would be appreciated by the family.
