Obituary of George Javornik
JAVORNIK, GEORGE
1947 - 2017
It is with great sadness, we announce George’s passing following a difficult struggle with cancer. Beloved husband of Linda (Frenette), he was predeceased by his parents, Teresa Slamen and George Javornik. He will be deeply missed by his sister, Marion Mistrik and brother, John Javornik (Christina) and many relatives and friends. George was a man of kindness, integrity, quiet strength and dignity.
George was born in Montreal of immigrant parents. From Wolf Cubs to Scouts then Army Cadets, George’s destiny was sealed. For 37 years he served with several military units. Three were Army Signals units (Montreal): 11 Signal Regiment, 15th Independent Signal Squadron and as Commanding Officer of 712 (Montreal) Communication Squadron. Then, as Commanding Officer of the Royal Montreal Regiment and the Commander Colonel of Number One Quebec Militia District. After 25 years of active militia service, George returned to the Royal Montreal Regiment as Honorary Lieutenant-Colonel (1990-1994) and Honorary Colonel (1994-1999). Parallel to his militia career, George spent 17 years in manufacturing and financial services dealing with all aspects of Human Resources management followed by 25 years managing large-scale projects varying from realignment of human resources systems, TQM implementation, education strategies, acquisitions, joint ventures and mergers. Since then he has continued to help various military and community associations. Visitations on Friday, Sept. 22 from 6-8 pm at James Reid Funeral Home, Kingston. Funeral service on Saturday, Sept. 23 at 11 am at St. Barnaby’s Church, Seeley’s Bay followed by a reception until 3 pm at Fort Frontenac Officers’ Mess, Kingston. There will also be a Memorial Service in Montreal on Sept. 30 at 3 pm at St. Matthias Anglican Church, Westmount followed by a reception until 6 pm at the Royal Montreal Regiment Officers’ Mess. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society.
