PURVIS, Patricia Anne Casey, Trish or Trisha to most, passed away unexpectedly, but peacefully, in her sleep last week, at her home in Kingston. Given the unprecedented times that we are now in, there cannot be any service for the time being. Mom has been cremated at James Reid Funeral Home, where there is an online condolences page. (www.jamesreidfuneralhome.com). There will be a celebration of life when we are all freely able to assemble and raise a glass. In lieu of flowers or baskets, please feel free to contribute to the educational charity of your choice. She was, as always, surrounded by books, plants, art, knick-knacks a plenty, and so many photos and memories of her family and dear friends. Cards from, and photos of, her 5 beloved grandchildren were literally everywhere - she loved being surrounded by the ones she loved. She lived so bravely for more than 27 years after the sudden passing of her soul mate Doug, and was an inspiration to her family and friends for thriving as an independent woman. She loved her sons fiercely, and was so adored by us. Her grandchildren loved their TT, and she so enjoyed and cherished their company, both as the doting grandmother and retired teacher. Mom was born in Penzance at the southern tip of Cornwall, England, near the end of WWII. As such, her love for good butter, cheddar cheese on a biscuit, a cup of tea, and gardens were an ingrained part of her life and routine. At the age of 12 her mother bravely took her by train to Liverpool, ocean liner to Montreal, another long train to Vancouver, then finally on to Victoria, BC to make their new home and start a new life. And what a new life did she start. In Victoria she became great, and lifelong, friends with Janet and Phillipa. She went on to attend UVIC, where she met the love of her life, Doug Purvis, whom she married in 1967. Mom began her teaching career in a rougher area of the South side of Chicago, where Doug was finishing his PhD. Upon his graduation and the birth of Jaime in 1971, they moved to the old Customs house in Gananoque while Doug started his career at Queen's, with Josh arriving in no short order in 1972, the school room teaching was replaced by two under two. At this point, the Purvii were fortunate enough to move to St. Lawrence Ave in Kingston at the same time as Diane Kelly and Bernard Burkom, with their children Jack and Kelly. The two families became extraordinarily close and are still. The life of an academic on the rise can involve a lot of travel, and Mom ably and tolerantly shepherded this young family to terms or years away in New Haven, London, Sydney, Warwick and Stockholm over the next 8 years. The rest of her life, with the exception of 8 months in France in 1987, was spent in Kingston, where, returning to full time teaching, she became a child and parent favourite on her various stops, finishing her career at her beloved RG Sinclair. Along the way, we lost Dad in 1993, and Mom coped and thrived, taking great joy in the cottage at Simcoe Island, often with her sidekick Bandit, and the marriages of Jaime to Paige and Josh to Nancy, five days apart! Mom's well-timed retirement started just after the arrival of her first three grandchildren Oscar, Quinlan and Maggie (in 14 months), and followed thereon by Beckett and Stella. If she wasn't travelling to see them, she was off on another adventure with Diane, and often the rest of her posse -- Judy, Shelagh and Nancy, dear friends in Kingston and cottagers the lot. This group of women (and their amazing husbands) formed the greatest support group that Mom could ever have asked for, and she cherished their friendships dearly. Her life and retirement were enriched by this group of friends and the communities of the economics department and Queen's more broadly, and that of Kingston, where she felt so at home. Mom was busy to the end, Chairing the Board for Frontenac County Child Care, volunteering with an adopted Syrian family, and volunteering at the Hospital. Line Dancing and pilates replaced running in the last few years, always remaining active. Taking up golf late in life, Mom never got better at it, but she loved her 9-and-dines with Jane, Di and Di. She loved to travel - on the first plane out of Egypt AFTER the uprising, an earthquake in Turkey, and so many other experiences that her sons couldn't keep up with the itineraries she provided. We will all miss Mom, and it will be some time before we stop looking to her favourite perches in various houses and cottages, expecting to find her, white wine in one hand, shamelessly holding a murder mystery in the other. What a life the little Cornish girl created! Small in stature but not in might. So rich in love, friendship and experiences. What a lesson for us all from the teacher, friend, grandmother and mom.

My Tribute Gift Foundation makes this online charitable giving portal web page MyTributeGift.org (the “Website”) available to you subject to your acceptance of and compliance with these terms of use (the “Terms of Use”). Your donation will be processed through My Tribute Gift Foundation for distribution to your selected charity. Your credit card transaction record will appear as My Tribute Gift Foundation. An official tax receipt for your donation will be issued by My Tribute Gift Foundation. Donations are sent out to charities at the end of each month for all donations received in that previous month. So a donation made on the first day of the month would be sent at the same time as one made on last day. Payments would be sent either by paper check or direct deposit. Please note that the there is 3% + 35¢/transaction fee for credit card processing, My Tribute Gift Foundation collects a 5% administrative fee. These fees help fund the cost of processing all donations, issuing tax receipts, and sending all appropriate information to the selected charity. These fees are assumed by your selected charity, but you will receive a receipt for the full amount of your donation. There are NO additional costs the charity has to endure to participate and accept donations through MyTributeGift.org. According to the American Institute for Philanthropy (charitywatch.org) a charitable organization is considered “Good” if they are spending less than 30% on administration and fundraising costs. My Tribute Gift Foundation helps reduce those administrative costs for charities and allows donors to contribute to lasting memorials for their loved ones.
When donating online, if the donation form has an option to add a tip, there is no convenience fee. The tip is optional and can be adjusted before you submit your donation. The amount of the tip will be displayed to you before you confirm the charge to your payment card. Tips are in addition to the donation amount, so they do not affect the amount that goes to the charitable organization. Under IRS and CRA rules, tips are not tax deductible to the donor.
You warrant and represent that all information and materials you provide to My Tribute Gift Foundation, through the Website or otherwise, are accurate and truthful and do not violate third party rights. TO THE EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, IN NO EVENT SHALL MY TRIBUTE GIFT FOUNDATION OR ITS AFFILIATES, OFFICERS, DIRECTORS, EMPLOYEES, SERVICE PROVIDERS, AND AGENTS (THE "FOUNDATION PARTIES") BE LIABLE FOR ANY: (i) INDIRECT, CONSEQUENTIAL, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL, COMPENSATORY OR PUNITIVE DAMAGES; (ii) DAMAGES FOR LOSS OF INCOME, LOSS OF PROFITS, BUSINESS INTERRUPTION, LOSS OF DATA OR DAMAGE TO PROPERTY; (iii) CLAIMS OF THIRD PARTIES; OR (iv) OTHER PECUNIARY LOSS, ARISING OUT OF OR RELATED TO THESE TERMS OF USE, THE WEBSITE OR ANY LINKED SITE. Indemnity. YOU AGREE TO INDEMNIFY AND HOLD HARMLESS THE FOUNDATION PARTIES FROM AND AGAINST ANY AND ALL CLAIMS, DEMANDS, ACTIONS, SUITS AND PROCEEDINGS BROUGHT BY YOU OR ANY THIRD PARTY (COLLECTIVELY "CLAIMS") ARISING OUT OF YOUR USE OF THIS SITE IN BREACH OF THESE TERMS OF USE OR THE INFRINGEMENT BY YOU OF ANY INTELLECTUAL PROPERTY RIGHTS OF ANY PERSON OR ENTITY, INCLUDING ALL LOSSES, LIABILITIES, DAMAGES, COSTS AND EXPENSES (INCLUDING ALL LEGAL FEES) ARISING FROM SUCH CLAIMS.

These Terms of Use and your use of the Website are governed by the laws of the Province of Ontario and all federal laws of Canada applicable therein. The courts of the Province of Ontario shall have exclusive jurisdiction over any dispute arising out of these Terms of Use or your use of the Website.
These Terms of Use constitute the entire agreement between you and My Tribute Gift Foundation with respect to the Website, except as we may explicitly agree otherwise in writing.. No delay or failure to exercise any right with respect to these Terms of Use shall be construed as a waiver by My Tribute Gift Foundation.
As a donor, you are responsible for researching the charity, understanding how your money will be used, and understanding the tax implications of your donation. We will email you a receipt, but the deductibility of your donation depends on your individual tax situation. We are not financial, tax, or legal experts. Please do not rely on our information to make decisions about your finances, taxes or legal matters. Consult a qualified professional in your jurisdiction.
Participating organizations have chosen to actively participate in the “Sponsor Program” to be represented in the Sponsor Charity array in an effort to increase their exposure and the opportunity for more memorial donations to be made to their organization. A rate structure is agreed upon and assessed on each donation processed through that program according to each organization’s individual agreement. Giving through that program has helped many organizations realize a drastic and significant increase in net donations.
If a donation form has a line item of Convenience Fee. The Convenience fee is displayed to you prior to approving the charge to your payment card. The convenience fee is in addition to the donation amount, so they do not affect the amount reaching the charitable organization. For example, a $100 donation becomes a $101.50 transaction. The convenience fee is directed immediately to a for-profit service provider. According to IRS and CRA rules the tax deductible receipt will therefore only be issued for the subtotal amount.
My Tribute Gift Foundation seeks to distribute all funds to organizations provided they have maintained active 501c3 certification in the United States or registered charity status in Canada. MTG relies on the beneficiary organizations to maintain and keep up to date contact information on file with the IRS or CRA respectively. This must be done in order for My Tribute Gift Foundation to exercise care and reasonable efforts to distribute payment promptly, without undue cost and burden to the foundation. In the event that a payment has not been deposited 12 months from issuance, the foundation reserves the right to utilize those funds in its mission to the foundation.
My Tribute Gift Foundation reserves the right to modify, change, discontinue and suspend these Terms of Use, the Website, and/or any services offered through the Website, in whole or in part, at any time, without prior notice to you. Your continued access or use of the Website after modifications to these Terms of Use have been posted on the Website shall indicate your acceptance of and agreement to be bound by these Terms of Use as modified.
